Philips’ new HDD players: HDD1630 and HDD6330

Philips GoGear HDD1630 Micro JukeboxTwo new devices were presented by the dutch company today.

The HDD1630 is a 6GB hard drive-based MP3 player (measures 2.11×3.39×0.64 in., weighs 3.1oz) with a 1.5-inch 16-bit color backlit LCD screen to view your pictures and album art. Battery life is rated at 18 hours.

The HDD6330 (measures 2.52×4.09×0.66 in., weighs 5.3oz) has a 30GB capacity, the screen is 2-inch and there’s also a USB On-The-Go port, so you can directly backup those pictures from your digital camera. Battery life is 15 hours.

Common features (found in both models) include:


  • support for MP3 (320kbps), WMA (192kbps), WAV

  • PlaysForSure (support for pay-per-song services) and Windows Media DRM 10 support (for subscription-based services)

  • FM tuner (20 presets)

  • FM, voice, line-in recording (in WAV format)

  • backlit sensory touchpads and SuperScroll (Philips’ system for navigating through your music collection with speed and precision)

Estimated retail price is $200 for the HDD1630, and a hundred bucks more for its bigger brother. The devices will be available in October.

It’s got 2 more gigs of space, a longer (not wider) screen and its battery is supposed to last for 18 hours. Still no video capability (just photos and album art).
