I had the same problem a year ago. The device would stop at "System Loading" and when connected to the PC it would stop at "Updating..." However I just revived it tonight. I did the following for one year and do not know exactly what I did right.

1) I took out the harddisk (Toshiba 1.8 inch MK3006GAL). Being curious I opened it and in the process damaged it.
2) Took my time and searched the net for solutions. Eventually bought a new MK3006GAL.
3) Bought a "3.5 inch Toshiba 1.8 inch" Adapter V.AO and peeked at the files in the disk.
4) Formated the disk using FAT system.
5) Connected the YH-J70 to the computer. PC recognised it as a harddisk but there are no system files in the harddisk.
6) Opened Samsumg Media Studio (provided when I purchased the device) and under "Device", I clicked "Format". Presto! Several folders were created together with a system file!
7. Downloaded version 2.07 from http://www.3friends.co.uk/j70/index.php
Unzipped the file. Copied the unzipped bin file to the YH-J70 (not in any of the folders created). Disconnected the device from the PC. Power on. A message appeared saying that the player is upgrading the firmware (there is an indicator to show the percentage upgraded). Player automatically restarted on its own.
8. A happy ending.

Thanks Krs,
Thought I'd look to see if anything had been found on this issue. I recently bought a 2nd cheap one for ebay and the 2nd one actually works! - I see what the fuss is about now!

If other peoples are not working [like my first] then a thought I had was to replace the HDD with a cheap one from said ebay (luckily the player itself I bought actually infact did work after charging so there was no need to have to )

If anyone is brave enough or suitably at the end of their tether with samsung! to do this and completely ruin their warrenty then the HDD they need is a toshiba HDD1422 C - and you can get them quite easily on ebay. I do know the HDD is quite easy to get at but as I never ended up doing it don't know at all if this works for this problem.

hi. i had my yh-j70s for over 2 yrs now, i have the no system font file msg for over a yr but this didnt stop the player from functioning. however, after i recently connected it to my girlfriend's macintosh the player started to have the `system loading` issue described by so many others before. i thought it might have been the mac or itunes so i had a look in the system files with total commander and i found some extra folders and files that were not there before so i just deleted them and the player now works again! hope this helps. i really like my mp3player, especially the line-in recording feature, excellent for dj mixes. word!

Hi,
I am really not satisfied with this device, i was the one who created this forum due to the "freezin loading" problem that i have had more than a year and a half ago.
i tried several solutions that i have either read or have been told by people but it never worked.

Hi,

I have same problem of YH-J70 start up. when i start the device it goes to endless "Loading ..." and stucks. I handed over the device to Service Center and they repaired it but soon after getting it back i got same problem again. I tried Restart button of the back and it worked. Is it the final solution? Is there any proper workaround for this?
It seems that most of the people have the same problem with this device.

Hi,
Just thought I'd check any ideas from the last comments a while back - Please do let us know if you hear anything from Samsung. Mine has been in a box for a while ...as it was bought in Dubai customer services over here wanted to charge me £130to fix it- eventually they told me this after much deliberation on my warranty and their requested proof of purchase! I hope Samsungs reading all these emails above for training purposes sounds like everyones been in the same boat!
- anyways don't know if this helps but before this the repair centers report said this would require a "HDD replacement" nothing more specific than that I'm afraid.

If anyone does get anywhere with Samsung and hears of any other way round these issues do let us know as it does look good! - Thanks, Rory

I have had my first YH-J70 (LB 30Gb version purchased in Hong Kong) since Aug05, and has given me not one single bit of trouble...and have used it extensively. So when I lost mine 2 weeks ago, I was keen to get another, cos of its superior features it wins hands-down. I bought the replacement (20Gb version) off eBay, and this seem to suffer the same problems as experienced by many...WinXP not liking the USB ,YH-J70 freezes upon USB connection which requires a Reset...Surely, this is a failure in the design, and Samsung should provid more assistance.

I will update should I succeed in rectifying this disabling problem.

I have a problem with my YH-J70:
I tried formatting the player using the "Samsung Media Player" software and as soon as the format got completed, the software caused a blue screen and the machine restarted. Since then, whenever I try to start the player it displays the Samsung logo and then restarts...this goes on in an infinite loop untill I press the restart button at the back of the player.
Has anybody encountered such a problem before? Does anybody know the solution to this problem? Samsung support didn't help me...they are asking me to replace the HDD. Does anybody know any other interface of connecting my HDD to a PC so that I can try and format it again?
Thanks,
Varun.

Hello all,

Ive had mine for about 6 months. I use it every day at work and love it.
No problems at all.

I add and delete files everyday (podcasts).
Great sound , long battery life.
Sounds like a lot of hdd failures above.

i tried to upgrade the firmware for my yh j70 but i get stuck on no 3 of the intructions which says to "open USB driver...." Does anyone know how to do this as i have absolutely no idea and samsung has been no help at all.
For the person who could not find the pc connect mode on their player, go to system then select and if you see "about" come up then scroll up or down with the navigation button this gets you to the next page. I hope this is useful for u.

i have a black yhj70, and decided to change some music i had put on it, after a format, it went wrong, and now displays font error on startup, this is annoying but does not stop it from working, i've tried to update it but failed as it wont accept any update in any folder. It did freeze on startup once, but the reset button on the back did the job.I have problems with folders showing on my pc, some show, others dont, if i try to reload them i end up with duplicate folders, which then hide themselves from the pc.
If you have a problem with connection, disconnect the player from the pc, open its programmes look for connection and try mtp only not mtp charge, this sometimes shows missing items. As a player its really good, pity about the software.

Yes me too! tried all of the above too - when I connect it's stays on USB connecting... for ever and my PC (and several in work I've tried it on) go veeery veeery slow! Without connecting it to PC does get past "sytem loading" part so I can see it looks good but just can't get it to be seen on PC and the two demo tunes are driving me mad now! - anything been back from samsung ? I am begining to think this could be gubbed!

Hi, sorry can't help with your dilemma but have one of my own. Just got the yh-j70, have installed the software etc, but when i plug the player into my pc via the usb port, it just says 'updating..do not disconnect' for ages. I can't access any menus on the player while it does this and, although my pc is recognising there is hardware, its not being displayed anywhere. i have checked in my devices and it is not showing in my disk drives either (as recommended by the manual)..what am i doing wrong??
