List of recommended LAME settings
LAME is hands down the best MP3 encoder out there and version 3.90.3 is the most tested one.
There’s a number of switches (settings) available to rip your music to, and choosing the “best” one can be a bit intimidating for starters. Luckily, there’s a nice list of recommended LAME settings for you to have a look at.
We go with --alt-preset standard. There are higher switches available, sure, but they’re only worth trying for very complex passages in your tunes, and even then the increased file sizes you get aren’t worth the minor extra bump in quality.
