Briefly: Archos Gmini XS202 review, Digital sales triple, Nano case DIY, EMI vs iTMS uniform pricing, OSX: iPod & terminal tip, “Hollaback Girl” hits record sales
- Review: Archos Gmini XS202 (7.7/10 rating; 20GB hard drive, nice and big LCD screen, WMA DRM support, small size; great battery life—rated at 17 hours, though in their test it lasted more than 25!; DRM10 support for subscription services not here yet, but Archos said a firmware upgrade is coming; this sweet little player goes for around $215)
- Digital sales triple to 6% of industry retail revenues as global music market falls 1.9% (revenue drop attributed to piracy -
arrrr!, lower CD prices, lower DVD video sales and “competition from other entertainment sectors”; according to Reuters: “”It feels as if the decline is lessening,” said IFPI Chairman and Chief Executive John Kennedy, who has predicted that full-year sales will be roughly flat.”) [via] - DIY: iPod nano case with urban camo option (print the template, cut and fold and you’re done; a packet of Eclipse gum fits the bill nicely, according to the author) [via]
- EMI says iTunes pricing doesn’t prevent piracy (EMI Group Chairman Eric Nicoli, phrasing the quote of the year: “I’m not persuaded of the fact that a lower price deters piracy”—??????????)
- OSX tip: using terminal to transfer your tracks from the iPod to your computer
- “Hollaback Girl” first song with one million commercial downloads (with an average of 15k sales/week since it debuted on November 25 last year; bananas!)
