Briefly: Cambridge Audio Azur 340A review, Watching DVDs on your PSP, MS & Real’s collaboration plans, EU’s online music plans, Audio editing in Linux, Samsung launches YH-J50
- Review: Cambridge Audio Azur 340A integrated amplifier (goes for a mere—in audiophile’s terms—$250, yet earns glowing review; “When you buy forty watts, you should know what you’re not getting. The thing is, the forty watts that the 340A does deliver are of excellent, in fact audiophile quality, and more than enough for most real-world listening.”; couple this with efficient monitors and you’ve got a yourself a sweet combo) [via]

- Microsoft and Real Settle, Plan Collaboration (Brad Hill blogged the news conference and Q&A session, here’s a few interesting bits: [1] they’re going to tie Rhapsody into MSN Search results; you’ll be able to stream up to 25 tracks to their full length; since this is built into the search results, users of non-Windows platforms will have access to this as well (Linux, Mac); [2] also: MSN Messenger integration allows you to stream up to 25 tracks—again, to their full length—per month; [3] Rob Glaser, RealNetworks CEO, says: “Digitization of media is a 20-year trend. At best, we are 10 years into it.”—also read our previous coverage on the settlement)
- EC publishes Euro-online music plans (“the European Commission published its plans yesterday to facilitate the licensing process for online music services across the 25 member states of the European Union”; what sucks is that the commissioner issued a recommendation instead of legal command, which means it’s up to the member states to decide how they’re going to incorporate “the Commission’s proposed general principles into national legislation”; and as we’ve reported earlier, they don’t seem to move along nicely; also read: AP’s story on the subject)
- Editing audio in Linux (compares Ardour, SND, and our favorite audio editing software, Audacity) [via]
- Samsung Launches YH-J50 Digital Audio Player (“Available in 6GB and 8GB capacities, the YH-J50 features a 1.5” color display, MP3 / OGG / WMA audio playback, MPEG-4 video playback, photo viewing, FM tuner, voice recording, USB-host, games, and 25 hours of battery life.”; 6GB version available in Europe, no word on US availability—this is YH-J70 little brother) [via]
