HOWTO: Build the CMoy pocket amplifier

CMoy pocket amplifierWhat’s the use for an amp? It can drive inefficient headphones to loud volumes, something that today’s portable sources aren’t too good at (and justifiably so, since they’re focused on longer battery life).

This guide helps you build an amp similar (there are three differences) to Chu Moy’s popular and small headphone amplifier. You don’t need to have a degree in engineering to follow these instructions, but if you’re completely clueless you probably won’t have much luck either.

For starters, the amp should cost you anything between $20 and $50; commercial offerings usually start from the $80-$100 price point (but you can always buy a used one for less).

Proceed with a bit of caution, and hopefully you won’t spend hours upon hours debugging!
