Sony partners with Samsung for memory chips, rumors for a 8GB model
A report on the Korea Economic Daily, quoting an unnamed Samsung official, speaks of a contract that is to be signed during the first half of this year and exceed Samsung’s sales contract with Apple. Sony will be using the chips for its MP3 players—The Inquirer speaks of a 8GB one.
Samsung said the flash deal may be true:
“Samsung Electronics is considering signing contracts to supply NAND flash chips to major companies, including Sony, but nothing in detail has been decided,” the South Korean firm said in a statement to the Korea Exchange.
The South Korean company, whose shares went up 14% hitting an all-time high when the news circulated, seems poised to take over the world indeed—if the deal is closed it will own more than half the global NAND chip market.
