Why Bose sucks
Why Bose sucks: A collection of reviews from around the Web, all in order to enlighten the masses—Bose is synonymous to overpriced, low-performance, lifestyle-is-what-you’re-paying-for gear [via]:
The message I want everyone to take from this lengthy review is that Bose, like Bang & Olufsen and Nakamichi, sell lifestyle and designer products whose prices are very heavily saturated by image and appeal. They are by no means, no means at all performance products. They have no cost-effectiveness, no bang-for-the-buck value, and draw no respect from any true audio enthusiasts. If your goal is to appeal to and impress housewives, then this system gets the job done, but if your goal is high fidelity, high performance, high endurance, upgradeability, and fair market value pricing then I would very highly suggest you look elsewhere.

I couldn’t agree more. Most of the people I know who purchased anything by Bose were gullible to the extreme. Pair that with the talent of some sales people and you get well-off people buying overpriced products because they are “in” or “cool” and will get “ooohs” and “ahhhs” from the in-crowd. Personally,
I think it serves them right. I always check all available and reliable sources before I buy anything these days, simply because even companies known for quality products have their slump-phases or have wildly varying degrees of quality control, depending on which audience they are targeting when.

What’s notable though, and what’s more of a marketing lesson I guess, is how Bose manages to get away with this and be a successful and profitable company…

I agree fully, Up here in Canada they try to pass boss headphones off for a clean 220$ for a pair of can type headphones with 1/4” jacks.
meanwhile i can get technic headphones off the web for 55$ american.

“I always check all available and reliable sources before I buy anything these days”. Wow. Aren’t you SO special. I hate know it alls in general, but audio people are the worst. You treat everyone like garbage just because they haven’t devoted all their spare time to something that is pretty pointless. I hope the people that fix your computers and/or cars treat you just as bad.

I’ve had an Arcam/BW system for 2 years and then replaced the whole thing for a Bose Wave System… i must prefer the Bose, just for the compact and powerful design. It may not be the quality of a proper hi-fi but all things considered it’s number 1 in my apartment!

Although I agree that some of the quality is suspect
