From the rumor-mill: new, radically different iPod video to come soon

Monday, February 13th, 2006

ThinkSecret reports reports that Apple is working on a revamped iPod, dedicated to video for good this time.

The entire front face will be occupied by a 3.5’’ touch-sensitive display; touch it and a digital clickwheel appears. Some gorgeous mockups have appeared—you’re looking at one below:

Regarding features: no wireless connectivity, which makes sense—this device’s upgrade is [...]

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

Woah! Check out the screen comparison between Creative’s Zen Vision:M and Apple’s iPod video: evidence #1, evidence #2 [via]. Creative’s got a winner in the screen department, no doubt about that. Also, its TV output looks much better too. Good news for the competition.

Presentation/Review: Creative Zen Vision:M

Friday, December 9th, 2005

We’ve reported on it last week, and it’s finally here. Creative’s reply to the iPod Video, named Zen Vision:M (press release).

You can’t help but notice the clear similarity between it and the iPod Video when it comes to the graphical interfaces. “Couldn’t they have at least changed the battery indicator’s color?” is a thought that [...]

iPod demand exceptionally strong during the holidays — everyone’s SHOCKED!!!1!

Friday, December 9th, 2005

iPod demand exceptionally strong during the holidays—everyone’s SHOCKED!!!1!: the 4GB Nano leads the demand race, followed by the 30GB iPod, the 60GB iPod and the 2GB Nano (in that order). I’m surprised to see the 2GB Nano last in that sequence.

I guess it shows that Apple has priced the Nano line accurately. Customers eyeing the [...]

Creative’s iPod video competitor coming

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

Finally, some potentially exciting news from Creative’s camp. Sim Wong Hoo, Creative Labs’ CEO, is expected to present an iPod video (review) competitor in person in Paris, next week. [And man, at the risk of calling us Apple fanboys (you know that ain’t true!), that “I’ll present it myself” thing does make us wish Mr. [...]

PSP versus iPod: What’s better for video?

Monday, November 14th, 2005

PSP versus iPod: What’s better for video? Verdict: no clear winner. The PSP is better for watching movies, but the iPod video is more portable. If you go for the latter, here’s our presentation on it and here’s another nice post of ours (yes, that is called self-flattery) with neat links, facts and quotes on [...]

Review: iPod with video

Monday, October 24th, 2005

The rating sounds right; “A-” for first-time iPod buyers, “B+” for current owners and power users. The “Audio Quality” section is where it’s at: hard drive stastic—fixed, bass deficiency—slightly improved, piano distortion—fixed. iLounge’s and Ars Technica [via] are the only iPod Video reviews you’ll want to read. Also: our presentation on the iPod with video.

Apple finally releases video iPod, prevents universe from collapsing

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

So, this is the new video-capable iPod. Seems the pictures we’ve linked to a few hours ago were indeed real, and AppleInsider/ThinkSecret were correct. It’ll come in 30/60GB versions, which can hold 75/150 hours of video content and go for $299/$399 respectively. Available in two colors: the iconic white, and black. Size-wise, it’s the same [...]
